Edge Pawns

Edge pawn = Rook pawn = a- and h-pawn

An edge pawn can be very powerful, but it also has well-known weaknesses. Promoting it may be impossible if the opponent defends well.

King and edge pawn vs king:

• As long as the defender can get the king to the corner, they can force a draw.
• The attacker needs a piece that can check the opponent’s king away from the corner.
